However, unlike the i7+ or other top rated robots we evaluated the i3+ does not have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can get stuck on things such as power cords or socks, and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or clutter it might come across. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty it will return to its docking station and automatically empties its dirt into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning where it left off. The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also removed large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is the self-emptying bin, which removes major maintenance sources and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed with the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot on how to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. Once connected, we were able to give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, including our top rated robot Vacuum picks, i3+EVO and the j7+ Series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or furniture and is often unable to supply power before returning to its home base.

For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that has a tendency to cause confusion for other robots I've tested.
